New Seismic Processing Course in our Dublin Office 13th-17th February 2012 This enjoyable course complements traditional teaching via manual and powerpoint. We believe that one of the best ways to learn seismic processing is to process real data. Our objective for this hands on course is to teach the geophysics behind seismic processing and not to get lost in the software itself. To that end we have developed a special interactive training interface to traditional seismic processing software which can be used with freely available and commercial softwares. During the course you will process real data through a modern processing sequence. Exercises will help you to learn to analyse the data and processing results and to solve the problems that you will likely encounter when working with seismic data processing. The course is best run at our dedicated training center in Dublin but it can be customised to run in any office if required.

You will Learn how to perform:

  • Geometry assignment. Using basic in-field quality control tools.
  • Velocity analysis including anisotropy.
  • NMO, stack.
  • Noise and multiple suppression in FK, TAU-P and RADON domains.
  • Time series processing: filtering, deconvolution, wavelet processing, surface related multiples.
  • Prestack time migration.
  • Prestack depth migration including model building (basic level).
  • Amplitude preservation and gather conditioning.

Unique Features:

  • Flexible timing: weekend travel not required for participants.
  • Extra time optionally available for problem solving sessions after course.
  • Electronic manual.
  • Access to online Elearning module to be used prior to course and for revision of key topics.
  • Access to software applications .
Instructor: Dr Robert Hardy

Hardy has a B.Sc. in Geology and Geophysics from Durham University, England and a Ph.D. in marine geophysics from Cambridge University, England. From 1990 to 2001 he worked for Amerada Hess where he helped establish and eventually ran the geophysical operations group in London working closely with the research center in Houston.

In 2008 Hardy established Irish based Tonnta-Energy Limited - a research and processing company concentrating on seismic survey design, seismic processing of "difficult projects", contract research, seismic modelling, peer-review and specialized seismic processing applications including training. Since 2004, basic and advanced seismic processing courses using specially developed web-based processing technology for data analysis have been given over 40 times to over 500 industry based geoscientists worldwide.

Hardy has extensive experience of seismic acquisition, modelling and processing from North Sea, West of Shetland, West of Ireland, Poland, Faroes, Norway, Denmark, Algeria, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana, Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Falklands, Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Who should attend:

The course is suitable for those with no hands-on knowledge of seismic processing but previous theoretical or hands-on experience would be an advantage. The course is aimed at interpreters, junior processors and anyone working with seismic data who wishes to learn more about seismic processing from a hands-on perspective. Participants will be given access to online training material which can be used as either a pre-course Elearning module or for revision of key topics in the future.
